Former Celtic head of recruitment John Park is not interested in a return to the club, according to a report. The Scottish Sun claims that Park is committed to taking up a similar role at Sunderland.

That is a blow for the Hoops who do not currently have a head of recruitment at the club. The previous man in the job, Lee Congerton, quit the Hoops to join up with Brendan Rodgers at Leicester.

With Neil Lennon back as Celtic boss, many thought that Park would also return. The duo worked well together in Lennon’s first spell as manager.

However, if the report is correct then the Hoops’ search for a chief of recruitment goes on. It is a position that Hoops chief executive Peter Lawwell will hope to fill quickly.

Role is especially important at Celtic

The role of head of recruitment is vitally important to a football club these days. Especially at a club like Celtic, where a manger’s success often comes down to their dealings in the transfer market.

Therefore, Neil Lennon will be keen that the role is filled as soon as possible. The Hoops need to make signings before the Champions League qualifiers start in July.

That task could be made all the more difficult if no head of recruitment is in place. That is why the Hoops must move quickly to get the new man in place.
