Jordan Larsson is to become available on a free transfer this month, Fabrizio Romano reports.

The son of Celtic legend Henrik has reportedly been released from his contract at Spartak Moscow with it being terminated in the last few hours. Romano states that Larsson has already received some approaches for his services.

The striker has spent several months with AIK on a short-term deal and will leave Moscow having netted 27 goals in 83 games [Transfermarkt].

Back in 2020, Larsson stated that a move to Celtic Park would be his “dream” switch. However, his valuation has always appeared to make a move to Glasgow unlikely from a financial perspective.

Now, however, things could be different. Larsson being available on a free coincides with Celtic reportedly being in the market for a striker. Indeed, the Daily Record claimed last night that the Hoops were “well down the line” with potential striker options.

And now, no doubt many will start to wonder whether Larsson was one of those potential options.

If Jordan Larsson is available, Celtic need to ask the question

This could prove to be our best opportunity to sign Larsson given how in-demand he’s been in recent years. Let’s not forget he was linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund last year [Goal].

Larsson has proven himself in the Swedish and Russian top flights whilst he also has experience of European football to his name too.

It’ll be interesting to see the stature of clubs in for his signature this summer. But Celtic are as attractive now as they’ve been since the Brendan Rodgers days. If you’re looking at the offer from Larsson’s perspective, you would surely see the value in it.

With Celtic being in the Champions League next season, it’s a great opportunity for him to shine on the stage his father did. A chance for him to seriously build new layers onto his own reputation and increase his stock further.

There is the argument that the prospect of signing for Celtic may be off-putting given the incredible reputation Henrik has here. But given Larsson’s comments in the past, that doesn’t appear to be anything that seriously concerns him.

We’ll see how this one develops, but it’s worth exploring from a Celtic perspective.
