Report: Kwadwo Baah on Celtic radar as rebuild continues
Celtic are looking to sign 18-year-old Rochdale winger Kwadwo Baah, according to reports.
GiveMeSport are reporting that the Rochdale winger is on Celtic’s radar, with the Bhoys looking to add options on the flanks. Baah, who was born in Stuttgart, was set to join Manchester City during the last transfer window. According to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph, a deal had been agreed between both parties.
Unfortunately for Baah, a medical highlighted an ongoing injury concern. Man City ultimately pulled out of a transfer, with the winger left to consider his options.
A pacy goal threat, Baah has been impressive for Rochdale this season. During a breakout season in League One, the winger has contributed to 5 goals [Transfermarkt], playing on either wing for the Dale.
In February, Dale boss Brian Barry-Murphy sang the winger’s praises [Manchester Evening News]:
“He’s probably one of the most talented wide players we’ve ever had at the club.
“From my point of view, I understand the deal with Manchester City is still not completed so a lot of other clubs are monitoring that closely.
“It’s not my job to drum up business for him or where he’s going to go or drum up attention, I think he’s had enough of that already. But I think it’s far from concluded and I’m privileged to have him in our squad going forward because even today I thought most of our attacking moments were through him and at 18 that’s great credit to him.”
Kwadwo Baah addresses an obvious Celtic need
Even if you hibernated over the 20-21 season, you’d know Celtic need reinforcement on either wing.
James Forrest is only now returning from an injury [Celtic FC] that has sidelined him since September. On the other flank, Mikey Johnston has struggled with a long-term knack, while Mohammed Elyounoussi is only at the club until the Summer.
Kwadwo Baah comes highly rated. Clearly, his versatility is a strong suit. Adept at playing on either wing, he represents a solid squad option at the very least. However, given the interest of clubs like Manchester City, Baah’s talent probably dictates that he’d be challenging for a starting berth from the jump.
GiveMeSport also report that Baah is available for free this summer. Along with Liam Shaw, he fits the exact profile of a Celtic transfer at this moment in time. Kyle Joseph has also been mooted for a move to Celtic. It’s clear that there’s an obvious focus on UK-based talent.
Although he comes with an injury risk, as dictated by the Man City situation, Baah seemed like an educated gamble. Available for nothing, it seems like a no-brainer for the Celtic board.
