Report: Kyogo finally closing in on Celtic title-race return

Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi is back doing work on the grass at Lennoxtown ahead of the title race run-in with Rangers, The Scottish Daily Mail reports [18/03 print edition, back page].

It’s unclear if the Japanese forward is doing an individual training programme rather than working with the entire team, but his presence on the pitches at the training centre is great news for the Bhoys.

Kyogo has been missing since Boxing Day when a hamstring issue finally caught up with him and ensured he limped off for a long-term absence.

Ange Postecoglou has consistently said it’s similar to the problem suffered by David Turnbull earlier in December and he’s only just returned to full team training.

Kyogo can’t be too far away. The international break could well prove to be the perfect spell for him to find fitness and match readiness.

While these things always have the potential to see a setback, the odds are now good on the forward being available for most of our matches in April, if not the initial derby against Rangers at the start of the month.

Kyogo was an absolute sensation in the first half of the season, scoring 16 goals and assisting five times in 26 appearances. More than that, he proved himself to be a big game player, shining in Europe and the League Cup Final.

We couldn’t have asked for a bigger boost to our title bid than having him back fresh, hungry and ready for more silverware.

Postecoglou is due to give a press conference shortly so, hopefully, we hear more from him then. He’s been cagey about setting a date on his return, but surely good news is now on the horizon.

In other news, Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis touted for Greece partnership with 15-goal AZ Alkmaar hero.
