Lazio striker Ciro Immobile could be rested for their upcoming trip to Celtic Park, The Daily Record report.
The paper say that a tactical change has been spotted in the Italian’s Tuesday training that suggests the red hot striker won’t be started in the match against Neil Lennon’s men on Thursday night.
Immobile not starting would be a massive boost to Celtic’s chances of a Europa League result. The 29-year-old has been in exceptional form recently, scoring ten goals in just nine appearances. Nobody has scored more Serie A goals so far this season.
The Record believe that manager Simone Inzaghi is testing out using Felipe Caicedo and Joaquin Correa as a front two against the Hoops, a combination which would obviously present dangers of its own.
However, with just three goals between them this term, Immobile is clearly a greater threat.
Lazio have a heavy schedule of matches on the horizon and have hopes of European qualification through league position. Between the two fixtures against Celtic they play Fiorentina, Torino and AC Milan, all of whom share similar ambitions this term.
Regardless, Thursday’s match will likely be a difficult encounter. Lazio aren’t a one man team and have a number of exceptional talents at their disposal.
The performance of Lennon’s side must be absolutely spot on to secure a result. However, undefeated so far in Group E, we should have confidence. A victory would put us on seven points in the group and on the brink of qualification.
Resting Immobile would show they are taking their eye off the ball.
Can we take advantage of the Italians’ complacency? A sold out Celtic Park is set to find out.
