Leeds United left-back Barry Douglas is happy at the club despite being linked with a move to Celtic, according to Leeds Live.

The Daily Mail reported of Celtic’s interest in Douglas last week. The newspaper stated that the former Dundee United man had held talks with the Hoops over a potential switch.

But fast forward a week and Leeds Live has stated that any interest Celtic had in the player has either died down or didn’t exist to begin with.

Leeds Live also believes that Douglas remains an important player for the dressing room. That’s despite the fact the left-back only played on 17 occasions last season with Leeds often implementing a back-three (Transfermarkt).

However, Celtic appear to also have moved on from any interest in the Scottish full-back after speculation over the weekend linking them to PSG left-back Mitchel Bakker (Sky Sports).

Celtic need players invested in the project

If Celtic have indeed held talks with Douglas and the player is still happy to stay at Elland Road, then it’s time to move on. We need players this season who are fully committed to the cause of securing 10-in-a-row.

It would always be tough to challenge the prospect Premier League football too. Douglas has never once played in the English top division throughout his career. It’s bound to be an exciting challenge for him.

What we could offer is probable first-team football. Our next signing at left-back simply must be ready to go straight into the side, and Douglas would’ve had the skillset to overtake Greg Taylor in the pecking order.

For one reason or another, this is a deal that doesn’t look anywhere near close to being completed. And if Douglas does indeed feel his future remains in England, then it’s a case of swiftly moving on and finding an alternative as quickly as possible.

Celtic have until October 5th to bring a new left-back to the club. But with vital Europa League qualifiers in the next few weeks, the sooner we get our targets in, the better.

As things stand – it doesn’t look like Douglas is going to be one of those players. Don’t be surprised to see him stay in the Premeir League this season.
