Leigh Griffiths will start his second Celtic game in a row when the Hoops head to Kilmarnock on Wednesday night, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun reports that Griffiths ‘will start against Killie’, in a match which could be vital in Celtic’s ambitions to win the league.

The report also quotes Hoops boss Neil Lennon on the prospect of the player getting the nod to start the fixture.

“It will do him good to start games, and he’s got a good chance of starting again tomorrow night” Lennon said.

Major boost for player

Should the report be accurate then it is a major boost for the Hoops striker. Griffiths started in the recent Scottish Cup tie against Partick, and scored the opening goal in Celtic’s 2-1 win.

That performance must have impressed the Celtic boss, if he is set to keep him in the Hoops team.

The move to keep Griffiths in the side could well indicate that that Neil Lennon has no indication about letting the striker leave in the January transfer window.

It seems that the Hoops boss will want to let Griffiths battle it out with Odsonne Edouard and Patryk Klimala for a place in the first-team.

Hopefully the decision pays off, and Griffiths is able to help the Hoops record a vital win at Rugby Park.

Should Griffiths find the back of the net, then the player could well find himself Celtic’s first choice striker in the weeks to come, that is a situation few would have expected in the weeks and months that he was out of the side this season.

He has fought hard though, and deserves credit for that.
