French top-flight side Lille are set to make a move for Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic, according to reports.
The Scottish Sun say that the Ligue 1 outfit are lining up a £5million move for the central-defender who still has another two years to run on his contract.
The Champions League outfit seem keen to splash the cash this summer. Just last week they spent a reported €10million on former Hoops loanee Timothy Weah from PSG.
Now it seems that they have turned attention to a current Celtic star with reports saying contact has already been made.
Simunovic moved to Glasgow from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 for a reported £4million.
If Lille bid, should Celtic allow Simunovic to go?
If the reports about Lille’s proposed bid come to fruition then Celtic must seriously consider whether to part with Simunovic or not.
The 24-year-old has been a big part of things over the past four seasons – helping us to ten trophies. He has arguably found his best form over the past five months since Neil Lennon came back to the club, however there are still question marks over parts of his game.
Simunovic is prone to slack errors in domestic matches and is routinely found out in Europe too. He’s unlikely to be a first-choice this season given the emergence of Kristoffer Ajer and the big-money signing of Christopher Jullien.
Celtic must ponder the question of whether they can afford to have a £5million man sitting on the bench for the majority of the season. That money could be reinvested into a couple of decent players in the position and that may be to the club’s benefit.
If Lille are serious about their interest then we should at least listen.
