Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has reportedly expressed an interest in signing recently departed Hoops midfielder, Nir Bitton.

The ex-Celtic captain is currently in Cyrpus managing Omonia Nicosia and is looking to add to his squad after lifting the Cypriot Cup during his first season in charge.

On Thursday afternoon, Lennon delved into the transfer market and used his connections from his time at Parkhead, signing former Celtic defender Adam Matthews.

And the 50-year-old appears keen to continue recruiting familiar names after expressing an interest in a member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad from last campaign.

According to reports from Israeli media outlet Sport 5, Lennon could try and convince Nir Bitton to join him in Cyprus.

The 30-year-old is currently on the lookout for a new club after cutting his contract short and ending his nine-year stay with the Hoops this summer.

There has been interest in the midfielder from his homeland, with Maccabi Tel Aviv making an offer to bring the experienced internationalist to the club.

However, Bitton turned down the opportunity to make a quick move shortly after his Celtic exit due to the terms of the contract.

Whilst Maccabi weighs up whether to offer new terms to the former Celtic man, other sides from across Europe will be taking an interest in Bitton.

Lennon and Omonia may have some negotiating to do to convince Bitton to make the move to Cyprus

One of those sides interested is, of course, Omonia Nicosia, as Lennon looks to link up with the man he first brought to Celtic back in 2013.

But, the Northern Irishman will have some negotiating to do if he wants Bitton to move to Cyprus, with the Sport 5 report stating that the midfielder’s salary may be too high for Omonia.

What Lennon does have on his side, though, is the previous long-working relationship with the versatile midfielder and also being able to offer him the chance to play European football next season.

It will be intriguing to see what Bitton’s next move does end up being this summer.

However, there is no doubting that he will have plenty of options to turn too off the back of an extremely successful spell in Glasgow.
