New Celtic signing Giorgos Giakoumakis is to arrive in Glasgow tomorrow after completing his move to Parkhead, Inside Futbol reports.
The new Hoops striker carried out his first interview with the club’s official media channels earlier. However, it was done remotely with the player having yet to have travelled to Glasgow.
Inside Futbol reports that the player will make his way tomorrow. Having not been called up to the Greece national team, Giakoumakis will have just under a fortnight to get used to many of his new teammates before our next competitive game.
The report also states that there was some late interest in the player. This was based in both Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Thankfully, however, Celtic managed to fend it off and tie down their man.
Giakoumakis hasn’t played a single minute of the 2021/22 campaign after VVV-Venlo suffered relegation. However, after being involved in pre-season, the centre-forward should be in good shape.
Celtic secure Giorgos Giakoumakis in much-needed boost
Make no mistake, this was a signing that was highly needed. Giakoumakis is likely set to replace Odsonne Edouard, who appears certain to leave the club tonight.
In addition to that, Leigh Griffiths has also left for Dundee on loan. That leaves us with two strikers having left the club. Giakoumakis’ arrival was absolutely essential.
There’s undoubted excitement over managing to secure to the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season. Some will feel it’s an upgrade given the poor form of Edouard and Griffiths last season.
Time will tell whether Giakoumakis can prove to be the top-quality addition we need up top. It’s an area of the pitch Celtic certainly needed to freshen up this summer. In fairness to Ange Postecoglou and the board, they’ve managed to do that.

But as things stand, we’re still one short of where we were last season. The Hoops now only have Kyogo Furuhashi, Giakoumakis, and Albian Ajeti available. Ideally, another centre-forward is needed to ensure we have capable depth.
Perhaps that’s an issue for the January window. But it’s positive to get this one over the line at least.
