No bids have arrived for Celtic-linked Mohammed Abu Fani despite reported attempts to move him on, according to Israeli outlet ONE.

The report claims that Maccabi Haifa are set to return to pre-season today with Abu Fani still a member of their squad. It comes after the Israeli international was linked with a move to Celtic Park.

Sport 5 claimed at the beginning of the month that Celtic would monitor the player during Israel’s international matches. Abu Fani played 61 minutes of their opening game against Iceland, but was left rooted to the bench for the proceeding games against Albania and the Icelanders respectively.

It’s also been reported this summer that are attempts are being made behind the scenes to bag Abu Fani a move to Europe [ONE]. However, ONE are currently claiming that there has been no concrete interest with zero offers for Haifa to consider.

The Daily Record, meanwhile, has claimed that it could cost as little as £800k for any club to sign him, with Maccabi refusing to stand in his way of a potential move.

Abu Fani can feature both as an attacking and defensive midfielder, giving Ange Postecoglou some real versatility if he decides to make a move.

Celtic-linked Mohammed Abu Fani still up for grabs

Celtic appear to have been the only club credited with some form of interest in the player which will perhaps raise alarm bells for the cynics. However, evidently, that hasn’t led us to making an approach as of yet.

Ange appears to be on the market for another defensive-midfielder this summer. While Abu Fani does have experience in that role throughout his career, he’s largely operated in an attacking role for Maccabi Haifa. That could easily be enough to move Celtic on to potential other targets.

This one does come across as low-risk considering the fact Abu Fani wouldn’t cost a great deal. But Celtic won’t waste money on talent they don’t feel is ready to come in and make an impact immediately.

It’s also worth noting that Abu Fani is a client of Dudu Dahan’s Scoutpush organisation. The Israeli agent has been at the heart of several deals to bring talents from his homeland to Celtic Park. The link here is obvious.

But Ange will have the final say on who comes into the club and what he wants in his new midfield signing. There’s still a need to replace Nir Bitton in particular with no real reliable defensive-minded midfielder at the club.

Time will tell whether Abu Fani is one of the chosen targets. But for now? It looks as though there’s no real progress to speak of.
