There is no Eddie Howe to Celtic announcement imminent, according to the Daily Record.

Hoops fans were able to get excited two weeks ago when the Daily Mail claimed that Howe was piecing together his backroom staff [print edition, 28/04, page 83]. This would make it appear as though an agreement has been reached and that the deal is close.

However, the Record has refuted the notion that any announcement is imminent. They state that any report stating that a deal is done is premature after expectation that Howe would be unveiled this week.

The Record instead claims that talks between Howe and the football club remain ongoing. In other words, that would suggest a final agreement hasn’t actually been reached as we start to receive conflicting reports on the status of the deal.

Celtic’s campaign will end in just under a week. The Hoops are scheduled to face St Johnstone at Parkhead on Wednesday before a trip to Easter Road to round off the season on Saturday.

Eddie Howe to Celtic announcement needs to come soon

For fans’ peace of mind, Celtic have to get something over the line here and announced pronto. Even if a deal is to have been done in the background, fans won’t rest easy until they’ve seen Howe at Parkhead holding up the green-and-white scarf.

It’s interesting that the Record didn’t mention what the talks currently being held are about. Does Howe have doubts about the role? Has an agreement still not been reached for him to be the new manager? Is it instead perhaps transfer-related?

Celtic fans will be praying it’s the latter. At least that would signify that work to dismantle and rebuild the team has already begun. That’s what we’re all after and it’s what needs to happen this summer.

With Champions League qualifiers only two months away, we know the club won’t have completed their rebuild by then. In fact, it could even take a couple of transfer windows for Howe or whoever the new manager is to sort this out.

But we need to put ourselves in the best position possible. And if Howe is already working on transfers and potential recruits for when he’s officially announced and the transfer window opens, that would be a major plus for Hoops fans.

Unfortunately, for now, we continue to await the appointment.

In other news, Stephen McGowan believes Celtic could land a £1.2m bargain this summer.
