The Scottish Sun has reported that Eddie Howe is seriously interested in the Celtic job, and has outlined his demands if offered the gig.

Howe has been linked with the Parkhead gig since before Neil Lennon departed [The Sun]. The Hoops have yet to announce what their plans are for next season. However, with Head of Football Operations Nick Hammond leaving last night, it looks certain that major change is on the way.

The Sun reported last night that Howe has been doing due diligence on the role. They believe that he’s been sounding out contacts to try and work out whether this would be a good move for him.

But Howe appears to have some demands of his own. Despite talk of a major rebuild at the club, it would appear that the former Bournemouth man doesn’t want to wait for success. The report claims he wants guarantees that he would be able to implement the changes he needs to in order to challenge Rangers next season.

It also states that Howe wants a sizable transfer budget in order to rebuild the club next season.

Eddie Howe demands not unusual; Celtic should be able to meet them

Celtic fans will undoubtedly be relieved to hear of Howe’s reported interest. That and the idea that he wants guarantees resources will be available to compete as early as next season.

There has been talk of whether Celtic will need to wait for a period of time before challenging our rivals again. This is due to the massive overhaul in the boardroom, the dugout, and indeed the pitch. But Howe clearly wants to come in and reassert our dominance immediately. That’s something that will please a fanbase already fixated with him.

It’s not as if Celtic won’t have the finances to back him. If Howe’s appointed, season-ticket renewals will skyrocket. So much so that the club will likely manage to sell them all. In addition, Odsonne Edouard and Kris Ajer will likely leave for big money given they’re into the final year of their contracts. There’s big money to be made this summer.

Not all of it will go into Howe’s transfer kitty. But we’ve got to speculate to accumulate. Appointing Howe would be a shrewd investment if we can pull it off. The Sun’s report claims he’s been sounded out by the club, with Howe making it known he would be interested.

Celtic still have five more league games remaining this season. There’s also the Scottish Cup to negotiate as the season remains far from over.

But if we can get our plans in place for the summer as quickly as possible, it should ensure a smooth transition.

In other news, Brendan Rodgers’ impact on this Celtic star has been highlighted by the player himself.
