Ange Postecoglou will take charge of his final match in Japan on Wednesday before flying to Glasgow to sign with Celtic, Australian broadcaster SEN has reported this morning.

It’s also looking like Kevin Muscat will be joining him at the Bhoys.

Journalist Andy Maher told the radio station: “I have it on very good authority that Ange Postecoglou will coach his team (Yokohama F. Marinos) on Wednesday night in the Emperor’s Cup against Honda and that will be last time that he coaches in Japan.

“I am told reliably that he will be on a plane that night via Athens heading to Glasgow and will be announced as the Celtic coach thereafter upon arrival.

“That is what I’m being reliably informed. Further to that, there is a very good chance, so I’m informed, that Kevin Muscat might be his second-in-command. We may wake up to that news on Thursday morning.”

The Scotsman had previously reported that former Rangers man Muscat was in line to be Postecoglou’s assistant.

If that’s the case, John Kennedy will be overseeing the return of non-international players to Lennoxtown. The squad is due back in ten days to be put through their paces at the training ground.

In reality, the first few days of pre-season will be more about sports science and fitness rather than any tactical preparation. Hopefully, it won’t impact Celtic plans too much.

The squad will then travel to Wales for a pre-season camp at world-class facilities. A number of friendly matches have been scheduled prior to next month’s European qualifiers.

The appointment of a new manager is always exciting. We’ve been waiting a long time. Hopefully the club can also explain a bit of the vision behind the appointment. They also need to clue us in on any new footballing structure.

Postecoglou’s first press conference will be a must-watch.
