Report quickly shuts down fresh Celtic transfer speculation
Celtic are not looking to sign Maccabi Haifa midfielder Mohammad Abu Fani, according to a report from Football Scotland.
The 24-year-old has been linked on several occasions with a move to Parkhead after it became clear that Ange Postecoglou was on the hunt for a new midfield addition.
The Hoops have reportedly watched the Israeli internationalist in action, and fresh reports from his homeland stated that representatives from the club had taken in his performance against Olympiacos last night.
Abu Fani came off the bench to round off the scoring in an impressive 4-0 victory over the Greek side as Maccabi Haifa advanced to the next round of Champions League qualifying.
Celtic were believed to be in attendance at the game, with the midfielder almost certain to leave his boyhood club this summer.
However, as reported by Football Scotland, sources have stated that the Bhoys were, in fact, not in attendance at last night’s game, and the 12-time capped internationalist is not an option Ange Postecoglou is looking to at this point in the window.
Journalist Mark Hendry has been a reliable name for Celtic transfer developments this summer, and he appears to have been on the ball once again, confirming the current status of the links between the Hoops and Abu Fani.
A move for the midfielder would make a lot of sense due to his agent being Dudu Dahan, who has brought a number of players to Celtic Park in the past, including the likes of Liel Abada and Nir Bitton.
However, Abu Fani isn’t a player who is expected to join that list in this window, with clubs from across Europe interested in securing his services.
Unclear as to whether Ange Postecoglou will continue to target another midfield addition.
After the departure of popular long-term duo Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic, a new midfielder was always likely to be on Ange Postecoglou’s agenda across the summer.
The Bhoys have been linked to many different options, such as Vinicius Souza, who has recently completed a loan move to Spanish side Espanyol.
However, earlier last week, the Celtic manager did add a familiar face to his midfield options, bringing former Huddersfield and Brighton man Aaron Mooy to the club.
With that in mind, it is currently unclear as to whether the 56-year-old is now looking to aim for additions in other areas of the park as he adds his final touches to the squad.
It will certainly be interesting to see if a midfielder is still somewhere Postecoglou is keen to add too. What we do know now, though, is that if another one does arrive, it is highly unlikely to be Mohammad Abu Fani.
