Report: Sheffield United won't undervalue Celtic-linked George Baldock

Sheffield United are insistent that reported Celtic target George Baldock won’t be sold on the cheap, the Star reports.

It had been claimed by the Daily Record last night that the Hoops had right-back Boldock high on their list of summer transfer targets. It was said that United were ready to make personnel changes after being relegated.

For Celtic supporters, this likely read as a chance to take Baldock on the cheap. The Sheffield Star, however, reports that there’s no interest from the Championship club in selling him.

The report believes the Sheffield United hierarchy has decided that their core players will only leave if an offer that’s too good to turn down arrives. If Baldock is to leave, any offer has to be a serious one.

The player returned to pre-season training earlier today along with the rest of his Sheffield teammates.

Sheffield United stance on George Baldock makes things more difficult for Celtic

What hasn’t been mentioned is just how much Sheffield United want for Baldock. That’s ultimately what any piece of business could come down to.

What’s clear, however, is that they aren’t exactly keen on selling. If anything, they’re happy to keep a hold of him and make him a key part of the squad for their Championship campaign.

If the Blades aren’t willing to lessen hsi value after dropping down from the Premier League, we can probably forget it. Some of their own supporters believe the club wouldn’t accept anything less than between £10m-£15m. If that’s the case, Celtic are surely likely to turn away.

Any deal has to be attractive and worth it for us. Don’t be surprised if Celtic refuse to invest as much as £9m or £10m on one player this summer. There’s too much to be done elsewhere for us to commit that size of fee on one individual.

The whole idea surrounding this one was that Baldock was available and that Sheffield were ready to downsize. That isn’t the vibe we’re getting from the Star’s report.

This could be a story that very quickly comes to a conclusion should United continue to be stubborn.

In other news, former Celtic youngster Barry Hepburn has earned an exciting promotion with Bayern Munich.
