A report in the Daily Record has stated that Celtic were involved in no wrongdoing regarding the transfer of Liam Shaw to Parkhead.
The Shaw saga blew up yesterday after Sheffield Wednesday reluctantly decided to confirm his transfer from the Championship club to the Hoops.
Within their statement, Wednesday said that they were investigating the deal. They confirmed they would consider any further steps to protect the club’s best interests. It was a clear hint at potential legal action.
They then went on to say that both clubs exchanged statements with a view to having a coordinated release. However, Wednesday claim Celtic stopped communication in that regard.
However, the Record states that Celtic are aware of the statement but have done everything legally.
Celtic know how to conduct a deal; Liam Shaw transfer likely all above board
You can criticise Celtic for a lot these days. The performances on the pitch and some of the decisions made at boardroom level are absolutely shocking. However, what you can’t accuse them of is not knowing how to carry out a deal.
The men in charge of Celtic’s recruitment and transfer discussions have been in the business for years. Peter Lawwell, the club’s Chief Executive, is hardly one for getting involved in wrongdoing. At least not legal wrongdoing in any case.

Take a look at the state Sheffield Wednesday are currently in. They’re all but set for relegation to League One this season whilst the fans have fallen out with their owner Dejphon Chansiri. Their fans have been furious with the fact Shaw has been allowed to go to Celtic.
The Wednesday statement effectively tries to absolve them from any blame. As if there was nothing they could’ve done to stop the transfer. This could easily be an attempt from them to shift the narrative. To try to ease some of the pressure they’re getting from their own supporters.
In any case, this doesn’t look like something the Celtic fans need to concern themselves with too much. The Shaw transfer looks like it’s all above board.
In other news, Celtic are seriously starting to rue their Mark McKenzie and Ben Davies errors.
