Celtic legend Scott Brown has been linked with a sensational move to Aberdeen.

The Scottish Sun have reported that Broony will join the Dons coaching set-up if Stephen Glass takes over from Derek McInnes.

Glass, who played alongside Brown at Hibs, is understood to be the front-runner for the Aberdeen job. The former winger, who played for the Dons, Hibs, Newcastle United and Watford, is currently enjoying a spell with Atlanta United 2. The MLS side’s development squad manager has also taken temporary charge of the main squad as recently as last season [Transfermarkt].

Brown is approaching the end of his latest Celtic contract. The Bhoys cannot currently guarantee a career progression for the iconic 9IAR captain. At Aberdeen, he would feasibly be able to play and coach simultaneously. The Sun are suggesting that’s the case, claiming it’s an option “too good to turn down” for the Celtic skipper.

67 Hail Hail has already suggested that Brown may look elsewhere this summer. While the expectations at Aberdeen are high, there’d be more time under less pressure for Broony in the North-East. The number 8 could learn his craft as a coach while still playing a significant role for the Dons.

Whether Aberdeen supporters would embrace Brown is an entirely different matter.

An exciting opportunity for Scott Brown at Aberdeen

Honestly, it’s hard to see Broony turning this down.

He and Stephen Glass are friends from their time at Hibs. 36 in the summer, Brown will definitely already be considering his options. The captain’s ambitions and Celtic’s rebuild may be on different timelines altogether.

While there has been talk of Brown joining the coaching staff at Celtic Park, there have no been no guarantees of playing time. Glass, in his first senior management role, may want a close confidante on the pitch, should he land the Aberdeen gig. It’s a move that makes sense for all parties.

While it would be incongruous to see Brown in any other colours, fans would surely wish him well. Celtic supporters have been keen to see Ismaila Soro develop at the club. Additionally, the likes of Luca Connell, Liam Shaw and Ewan Henderson are surely nearing first-team action.

It’d be a massive opportunity for Scott Brown.
