A report from the Daily Record last night has named the eight players Ange Postecoglou is eyeing up to prepare for his Celtic rebuild.

A sizable summer task sits in front of the new man with no time to settle into his role. As the UEFA Champions League qualifier vs FC Midtjylland creeps up on us in several weeks, action needs taken in the transfer market immediately.

And the Record has claimed that Celtic are indeed looking at eight potential options to strengthen their squad this summer.

As well as Ko Itakura, the likes of Erik Sviatchenko, Piero Hincapie, and Mario Vuskovic have been named as the centre-back contingent Celtic are keeping an eye on. The closest deal to completion looks to be for the Hajduk Split man Vuskovic [Sportske Novosti].

Celtic likely need two centre-backs to adequately make up for shortages this summer. But whilst there’s no real question over whether we’ll bring them in, there’s still a big one to ask regarding the timeframe.

The Record also names Mat Ryan of Brighton as a live option for the club to strengthen in the goalkeeping department. Whilst George Baldock continues to be high on the list of potential right-back signings. Another key area Celtic need to sort out this summer as early as possible.

The Celtic rebuild will require strengthening in all positions

The report also claims the experienced midfielder Aaron Mooy is currently being looked at by the Hoops. Postecoglou will know his countryman well given he managed the Shanghai Port star with the Australian national team.

The final name mentioned by the Record is former Hearts starlet Aaron Hickey. They believe Celtic are also keeping their eye on him as left-back looks like another area needing strengthening this summer.

All players have been linked with moves to Parkhead from various this summer. And the Record believes that all eight are currently being looked at as Celtic ponder their final decisions.

Interestingly, Celtic need reinforcements all over the pitch. So it’s pleasing as a supporter to see so many areas in our squad being targeted for strengthening.

Whilst we can’t expect all of this work to be complete by the time Midtjylland rolls around, it shows the new regime is embracing the challenges ahead of them before the new domestic season.

Here’s hoping we’re in a much stronger position come the end of July than we currently are.

In other news, Postecoglou is weighing up a move for a player he knows well.
