Earlier this week, it was reported that Celtic were interested in bringing young PSG midfielder Edouard Michut to the club.

The 19-year-old Frenchman is expected to leave his current side this summer after expressing his disappointment at the lack of game time.

Michet is thought to be highly rated at the European giants, having already made eight appearances for the club’s first team. However, he failed to earn a regular spot and was recently left out of the club’s pre-season plans.

Having been watched by clubs from across Europe from a very young age, lots of interest was likely to arrive for the talented midfielder.

But, it was Ange Postecoglou and Celtic who made the first move for the French under-19 internationalist, with reports suggesting that the Hoops were in talks with PSG.

Sections of the support were thrilled to see a talent like Michut linked with a move to Parkhead. However, the excitement of those links were quickly put to bed by Postecoglou.

In the aftermath of the Bhoys’ 4-2 pre-season friendly victory over Banik Ostrava, the Celtic manager revealed that Michut wasn’t an option that the club would be pursuing.

He said [Football Scotland]: “Yeah, good player, but no. I have an interest in every good footballer in the world, but there is a limited market which I can tap into.”

Now, the reasoning for the Hoops’ stance in not making a move for Michut may have been revealed, with PSG setting their price tag for the midfielder.

According to a report from the Independent, Celtic had been in contact with the French side over a potential deal. However, they indicated they were only willing to go just over €2 million to sign Michut.

This offer didn’t meet PSG’s valuation, having set a price tag of €6 million with a 25% sell-on clause on the youngster, and OGC Nice are now the main side interested in bringing Michut to the club.

There looks to be no indication that Celtic will go back in for further negotiations and have now likely moved on to other targets.

It would have been interesting to see the technically gifted midfielder move to Parkhead this summer. But, at that price tag, Postecoglou might have been looking for a more established option.

The Bhoys’ hunt for a new midfielder goes on, and it seems almost certain it will be an area the 56-year-old adds to his squad this window.
