Report: The interesting position Ange wants Celtic recruitment team to bolster

Ange Postecoglou wants his Celtic recruitment team to bolster the centre-forward position this summer, according to the Daily Record.

The Hoops have had productive campaigns from both Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis this term, with both strikers making a huge impact in their debut seasons.

However, the Record believes Ange is eyeing up a new striker along with a left-back and centre-back.

Celtic do have a third striker in Albian Ajeti, but it’s clear the manager doesn’t fancy what he offers despite giving him a run of games back in September.

It comes as a surprise given that Ange only generally plays in a one up top system. The manager will have a difficult enough job balancing things out between Kyogo and Giakoumakis next season. Adding a third striker to the mix would certainly be interesting.

It also remains to be seen what type of profile Ange is looking for from the third striker, and whether he would be bought with a view to making an immediate impact.

Celtic recruitment team reportedly urged to find a new striker

In an ideal world, Celtic would already know who they want to bring in at the top end of the field. The club will no doubt have a list of targets, but it’s certainly an interesting position to choose for summer tweaking.

After all, we still have Daizen Maeda who can play as a lone front-man if necessary. Granted, that doesn’t necessarily suit his game.

It’s clear Ange isn’t messing about as he targets an assault on the UEFA Champions League next season. He evidently feels he needs a reliable third-choice striker, and that says a lot about how he views Ajeti.

The truth is, if Albian was up to the challenge then we wouldn’t be bringing another in. The Swiss forward has had plenty of opportunities over the last 2 years but has failed to show anything of note.

You won’t find fans complaining about strengthening at left-back or centre-back either as we press ahead. Celtic need better cover in both positions.

But all eyes will be on who Ange chooses to bring in as his third striker option.
