Report: The sell-on percentage Brighton are offering Celtic for Odsonne Edouard

Brighton are offering Celtic a variable sell-on percentage of between 5% and 15% for Odsonne Edouard, according to the Daily Record.

The report from the newspaper has broken down Brighton’s proposal to the Hoops, which is said to have now been sent.

The Record claims that £18.5m will be offered to Celtic upfront. A further £3.5m has been put forward as performance-related bonuses.

However, the variable percentage of his sell-on fee is dependent on whether Brighton manage to sell Edouard for £30m or more in the future.

Edouard is currently into his final year at Celtic. The Daily Mail initially reported earlier this week that Brighton were looking to make their move after the UEFA Champions League clash vs Midtjylland.

Brighton appear determined to sign Odsonne Edouard, but what does the player think?

You have to wonder what’s going through Edouard’s mind here. Nobody seems to be talking about that particular aspect of this transfer story. He’s been linked with big-money moves over the last two years. To end up at Brighton come the end of it would be anti-climactic in the extreme.

Then again, they have what many players want. Access to the English Premier League. A league that Edouard no doubt has his eyes on performing at.

But it wasn’t long ago that he was being linked with moves to Leicester and AC Milan respectively [Daily Record]. The come down to then join Graham Potter’s Brighton? There’s no guarantee Edouard will be all for this.

Of course, the deal being offered would suit Celtic you would imagine. Banking close to £20m and potentially going over in performance-related bonuses has to be considered a good deal. Especially if they sell him on for big money and we find ourselves getting another tidy sum in the future.

There simply isn’t anything else you can ask for Celtic here. We’ve put ourselves into a horrible position by holding on to the likes of Edouard and Ryan Christie last summer. We took a risk to bag the 10 and it’s backfired. Now we’re paying the costs of it.

We’ll see if a move to Brighton comes to pass. But for the player himself, he surely has his sights set on bigger things.
