Young Celtic goalkeeper Ross Doohan is a summer target for English League Two side Tranmere Rovers, The Glasgow Times reports.

Doohan worked with manager Micky Mellon last season on loan at Dundee United. Despite not featuring much, Mellon is keen on a reunion.

However, Ange Postecoglou isn’t ready to sanction a deal, on loan or otherwise, yet. The Celtic boss is going to assess his goalkeeping options over the next week before sanctioning any exits, say The Glasgow Times.

It’s a position under the spotlight again after Vasilis Barkas struggled up against a fierce Midtjylland free-kick on Tuesday night.

The Greek international also failed to convince last season. Some supporters believe he shouldn’t be the future of the position.

Doohan is unlikely to be rushed into the number one spot, but clearly, it’s a goalkeeping lineup in flux. Celtic won’t want to send out a backup or a prospect without being 100% clear on the future of the position.

Doohan is now 23 and has less than a year left on his contract, so this year could be make or break for him regardless of where he’s playing his football.

He’s yet to make a competitive debut for the Bhoys but does have loan experience at Ayr United and Dundee United under his belt, making 72 senior appearances in total.

Any goalkeeper decisions, on Doohan, Barkas, Conor Hazard or Scott Bain could signal other action, so it’s a position to watch for sure.

In other news, Celtic remain in talks to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers permanently despite Starfelt signing.
