Scott Brown is to leave Celtic and become a player/assistant manager of Aberdeen, according to the Daily Record.
The Record has stated that Brow held talks with Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack after the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Rangers at Parkhead.
It’s been reported that official confirmation of Broony’s departure is expected within the next 48 hours. Despite the fact there is a new one-year contract on the table from Celtic, there is major uncertainty surrounding whether the new manager will want him to be part of his plans.
Brown was only going to be appointed at Aberdeen if Stephen Glass was appointed manager. The Record believes that’s the route the Dons have decided to go down.
However, any departure wouldn’t be immediate. Brown still has eyes on securing Scottish Cup glory in May before he ends a trophy-laden career at Celtic Park.
Scott Brown – one of Celtic’s greatest ever captains
It will be gutwrenching to see Broony bow out if that is indeed the decision he takes. Even if there should be no guarantees as to him staying until a new manager decides otherwise, it just won’t feel right.
It makes it even more disappointing that we failed to secure the title this season. Had we done so, Brown would’ve been able to ride off into the sunset with a fitting ending to his Parkhead career.
Instead, we’re going to have the very unusual feeling next season of seeing Brown line-up against us. With Glass wanting Brown to be a player-coach, it looks like Celtic will be coming up against the Parkhead legend.

However, when you strip it back, this is a good move for all parties. Celtic have Brown’s successor – Ismaila Soro – ready and available to step into his shoes. It would certainly be long overdue, whilst Brown will want to be at a club where he’s guaranteed minutes on a weekly-basis.
In addition to that, it gives Broony vital experience in his quest to become a manager in his own right. Waltzing straight into an assistant manager’s gig with Scotland’s third biggest club? That’s a big move for him to make.
Hopefully it all works out for him. But he’ll undoubtedly be missed at Parkhead when he decides to call it a day.
In other news, Celtic’s last six goals against Rangers have come from a problematic Lennoxtown issue.
