Reported Arsenal offer for Marcelo is intriguing for Celtic

Arsenal are reportedly interested in taking Marcelo from Real Madrid this summer.

Spanish media outlet Sport have claimed that Marcelo wants to leave Madrid before next season. They say his representatives have received several offers and are currently in talks with Madrid chiefs. Arsenal are apparently one of the clubs to have submitted an offer.

Sport believes that PSG, Juventus, and AC Milan have also been in touch with offers too. And question marks can easily be put towards what this means for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney.

Arsenal were this morning linked with a £22million offer for the Celtic star (Daily Record). Celtic apparently want £25m however, and an agreement has yet to be reached (Daily Mail).

But if Marcelo was to decide to move to the Emirates Stadium, surely Arsenal wouldn’t need to keep going with Tierney.

Marcelo interest adds a new dimension

There are several factors that of course make this a stretch. First off, there needs to be a genuine offer from the Gunners for Marcelo, as well as the fact the Madrid man would need to be the Gunners’ number one choice.

It would then require the Brazilian to actually accept an offer. It would then have to be before Celtic and Arsenal come to an agreement for Tierney.

If Marcelo was signed, however, is there any use for Tierney? It would be difficult to see them splashing out Celtic’s valuation for a player they considered back-up. Marcelo, meanwhile, surely wouldn’t go to the Emirates without first-team guarantees.

It’s interesting to see Arsenal linked with alternatives, however. You would always expect a club the size of the North London outfit to keep their options open of course. But, in saying that, Sport are claiming the offer has been made to Marcelo. Not a note of interest, and certainly not a “we’ll wait and see what happens with other targets” message.

Is it wishful thinking on our part to think Arsenal could move elsewhere? Maybe, but you can hardly blame us. Even if Arsenal drop their interest, all that would seemingly do is clear the way for Napoli (Scottish Sun).

But Celtic are sticking to their guns, and it’s not inconceivable to think Arsenal don’t like it. If the offer for Marcelo is genuine, what a boost that could be for us. Hopefully, all of this speculation and the daily updates don’t keep going on too much longer anyway.
