Celtic may have rejected a Scott Sinclair bid from Preston North End, but our stance on the matter doesn’t bode well for him.
According to the Daily Record, Celtic booted out a potential loan offer from the Championship club for Sinclair’s services. But, despite that, the Hoops are apparently still willing to consider a sale, so long as it’s permanent.
Sinclair only signed a new one-year extension to his deal just several months ago (BBC). But that could easily be seen as a way for the club to get some money out of him this summer.

Interestingly, Sinclair has yet to start any of the three competitive matches we’ve played so far. Instead, he’s watched Lewis Morgan and Mikey Johnston impress supporters in the meantime. Daniel Arzani will also return at some stage, and that will be more competition for the Englishman to contend with.
Ironically, he was the top scorer of our treble treble run with 60 goals. But if we’re all being serious with ourselves, Sinclair hasn’t been performing to a good standard for some time.
Scott Sinclair bid shows Celtic want cash for him
There remains plenty of time for a deal to be done here. The transfer window still has over a month left in it, and Sinclair could easily find himself the subject of more offers. His stats alone will help interest should Celtic want to let him go.
Of course, it also depends on the fee too. If Celtic see some value in him staying this season, then you can imagine that the Hoops won’t want to be lowballed too much for him, even if he’s out of contract this summer.

Averaging 20 goals a season for a left-winger isn’t too shabby. But you have to wonder whether Sinclair will get the same number of appearances this year. There’s more competition than there’s ever been for his spot in the side. At the moment, he’s losing out by some distance.
If Celtic are open to selling the Englishman, then it all but ensures this will be his last season here. And that would also back up why the club rejected a loan deal for him too.

A loan with a year left on his contract doesn’t suit us whatsoever. It means we get no money for him, and it would give Sinclair the opportunity to jump at an offer that sees him leave for nothing next year.
But this is a stance that will divide the support. Sinclair clearly isn’t doing enough to keep his place in the side, and if Celtic get the money now, it makes sense to cash in before he leaves for nothing.
