Apparent Celtic target Alberth Elis may not be a name Hoops supporters recognise.

The Houston Dynamo attacker currently plies his trade a long way from Celtic Park. But his performances in the MLS so far this season have been exceptional.

Emilio Izaguirre revealed today that Celtic have asked him several times about Elis’ potential. That’s immediately sparked question marks over whether the Hoops will take a shot on him this summer.

And just one look at his stats so far this season should make the Parkhead outfit interested.

Elis has played in all of Houston’s opening eight matches this term. Despite being an attacking right-sided player, his stats read more like a striker’s.

The Honduran has four goals in his opening eight matches. In addition to that, however, he’s also notched five assists.

In just two of Houston’s opening eight matches has Elis failed to either bag a goal or assist. The numbers are simply stunning, and he’s clearly playing with a rich vein of form at the moment.

Big gains for Elis

Elis assisted in the 2-1 Texas derby win over Dallas just last weekend. His incredible form has the Dynamo sitting third and just six points behind leaders LA having played three games less.

His form this season is currently en route to being even better than the last. Elis made 34 appearances for Houston overall in the 2017/18 campaign, scoring 11 goals and managing 12 assists in total.

His stats read incredibly well for just a 23-year-old making his way in the MLS. The USA’s premier competition has gained real strides over the last several years in both exposure and on-field quality. Elis has been central to that growth.

The only question Celtic must be asking themselves is whether they need another right winger, however. After all, James Forrest should be rivaled by Maryan Shved next season. Should Celtic take the plunge on Oliver Burke too, they would be well stocked in that area.

Bringing Elis into the mix, however, would be an extremely interesting acquisition for the Hoops. He’s flying in the USA, and is in red-hot form as we speak.

This is one to keep an eye on, and certainly one to get excited about if the Hoops make a move.
