Reported Celtic target Ben Foster recently gushed over Parkhead atmosphere
Reported Celtic target Ben Foster has already labelled Parkhead as the greatest atmosphere he’s ever experienced.
Sky Sports stated yesterday that the Hoops have an interest in the former England shot-stopper.
Foster has over 360 English Premier League appearances to his name and featured 23 times for the Hornets in the Championship last season [Transfermarkt]. However, with only a year left on his contract, he’ll need to start thinking about his next move.
And interestingly, Foster recently mentioned Celtic Park as the best venue he’s ever visited.
Speaking on his Fozcast podcast earlier this month, Foster said: “I played in a Celtic-Man U game once, up at Celtic. It was in the Champions League. We drew 1-1 and I definitely should have saved the goal, but don’t worry about that!
“The atmosphere at Celtic Park, I have got to say, was the best atmosphere I have ever played at, ever. It got in my head like you would not believe. Honestly, I was cr*****g myself all the way through the game.
“The noise was like nothing I have ever heard before, when they are attacking (Celtic) their fans suck the ball into the goal.”
Ben Foster shows his admiration for Celtic Park
We’re not naive of course. We know that if we move for Foster, the Parkhead atmosphere on European nights isn’t going to be the main factor in his decision. But it certainly helps.
Celtic have undoubtedly managed to attract a host of players to Parkhead via our reputation. Or, better put, the reputation of our incredible fanbase and the atmosphere they generate.
That Foster was blown away by it is hardly surprising. He wasn’t the first and won’t be the last. It’s a unique trait that Celtic Park manages to boast.
More importantly, it’s great to see Celtic looking at different options for the goalkeeping department. Foster falls into a similar category to Joe Hart. The fact that neither are exactly flying at their respective clubs but both remain better than what we have.
If Celtic were to sign the experienced Englishman, it would be good business. There’s simply no way we can go into the season with Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain as our first two choices.
It looks as though Ange Postecoglou has realised that. And if we do move for Foster, it appears our venue won’t need any selling.
