Reported Celtic transfer target Liam Donnelly has spoken out on the Hoops’ interest in the player.
Belfast Live recently reported that the Scottish Champions were ‘monitoring’ the player, with a view to bidding for the Motherwell midfielder before the end of the January transfer window.
However, the player himself has now commented on the speculation, playing it down as rumours, and that he doesn’t expect to leave Fir Park in the current transfer window.
“They are just rumours”
“Yes, I saw it, but they are just rumours and I don’t think there is too much in it. I won’t be looking too much into it” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“It is flattering and it is nice when you are linked with other teams it shows you are doing alright and performing well.”
Celtic’s reported interest in the player might come as a bit of a surprise to some supporters. After all, the Hoops already have a number of midfielders on their books.
However, Donnelly has been in excellent form this season. His recent goal for Motherwell against Aberdeen was his 10th of the season.
Impressive scoring record for midfielder
That is a very impressive record for a central midfielder. With a record like that, it is understandable that the Hoops would declare an interest in the player.
Of course, this isn’t the first-time that Celtic have been linked with a move for a Motherwell midfielder. The club’s bid to sign David Turnbull in the summer was scuppered by the player suffering a knee injury.
It is worth keeping an eye on Donnelly’s progress during the second-half of the season.
If he continues to maintain his current level of performance, then perhaps the rumours surrounding the player will turn into something more concrete, and Celtic will bid for the player.
