Belgian side Gent have signed reported Celtic target Milad Mohammadi. The left-back join will join up with former Hoop Mikael Lustig.

This isn’t bad news by any means for Celtic as they have already signed Boli Bolingoli. However, if Kieran Tierney leaves the club for Arsenal, then it could be a greater worry.

Celtic move for Milad Mohammadi is off

The Bhoys’ interest in Mohammadi started in late June as reported by the Tehran Times.

The Hoops were in desperate need for a left-back with only Tierney available.

Celtic’s acquisition of Rapid Vienna’s Bolingoli seen that Mohammadi was no longer required.

The Tehran Times now report that the Iranian international is joining Gent. He will hook up with ex-Celtic and defensive partner Lustig when he starts pre-season training.

If plans changed, two of their back four could well have been at Celtic this season.

It will be interesting to see how the pair work out for the Belgian side as they seek to climb up the league.

What is shown, is that Celtic are getting their targets further up their wanted list.

The 25-year-old is a free agent, yet the Hoops still paid a fee to bring Bolingoli to Glasgow instead.

Right back issue needs addressed

It’s all well and good the club sourcing left-backs, but it’s the other side that has to be looked at.

Since Lustig’s departure, The Bhoys are struggling to fill his role.

Anthony Ralston is featuring in pre-season from time to time but it’s clear he will not be a starter.

Perhaps keeping the Lustig on another contract wouldn’t have been a bad idea after all.

All things considered, the Hoops are entering another round of qualifiers next week without a replacement.

If Neil Lennon and co are serious about qualification, this problem needs to be sorted ASAP.
