Of all the players that Celtic have been linked with in the January transfer window, Le Havre striker Tino Kadewere seems to be in the best goalscoring form. Before Friday night’s Ligue 2 match against FC Nirot, Kadewere had scored 17 goals in 19 league games.

Now it is 18 goals in 20 league games, as he scored the only goal in Le Havre’s 1-0 win over Nirot. That is an exceptional goal record, even if the French second division might not be the very best standard.

Hoops reportedly one of a number of clubs interested

The Daily Mail recently reported that the Hoops were amongst a number of clubs interested in signing the player, who is rated at £10 million by Le Havre. The likes of Premier League sides Southampton and Bournemouth were amongst the clubs credited with an interest in the player.

It has also been reported on GetFootballNewsFrance.com – a reliable source for French based football transfers – that the Hoops have made a ‘formal approach’ to the player. However, the report states that although Kadewere has indicated that he wouldn’t turn down a move to the Hoops, but would prefer a deal where he is loaned back to Le Havre for the rest of the season. Would that sort of arrangement appeal to Celtic? Perhaps not.

However, if Celtic want to sign the player then they should move fast. His latest goalscoring exploits will only gather more attention from interested parties.

Celtic need another striker, and Kadewere arguably fits the bill. He is 24, and is entering the prime stage of his career. Celtic have had success in the French market in recent years – Odsonne Edouard is the name that immediately springs to mind.

Could Kadwere be Celtic’s eventual replacement for Edouard? That remains to be seen. However, that would be a good bit or formal planning by Celtic. Now is the time for the Hoops to move for the player. Hopefully they don’t leave it too late to sign him.
