Reports: Celtic talent Adam Montgomery set for Scottish Premiership loan spell; deal agreed
Celtic youngster Adam Montgomery is reportedly set to join Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone, on loan.
According to Sun Sport, the 19-year-old has agreed a switch to McDiarmid Park, which will see him spend the season with Callum Davidson’s side.
Montgomery will provide the Saints cover on the left-hand side, with first-team duo Callum Booth and Tony Gallagher continuing to nurse injury issues.
Over the last 12 months, the Lennoxtown academy graduate has also shown his ability to play further up the pitch when needed.
This latest move will be the Scotland under-21 internationalist’s second temporary move, having spent the back end of last campaign on loan at Aberdeen.
The move to Pittodrie didn’t work out as hoped for Montgomery due to managerial changes and long-injury issues keeping him on the sidelines.
However, the full-back will be provided with a fresh opportunity to gain valuable first-team minutes whilst at St Johnstone next season.
Montgomery is believed to be highly rated at Parkhead and only recently signed a new deal that would see him remain with the club until 2025.
The Celtic youngster also featured regularly during the first half of the season under Ange Postecoglou, making 20 appearances in total.
He showed promise during the early stages of Postecoglou’s era at Parkhead and played his part in qualification for the Europa League group stages.
However, his game time dropped off once first-choice left-back Greg Taylor made his return from injury.
His game time in the Celtic side next season was likely to be reduced even further with the expected arrival of Alexandro Bernabei.
The left-backs last loan spell will have been frustrating for both Montgomery and the club. So, hopefully, this opportunity with St Johnstone can help the teenager’s development.
All the very best of luck to him!
