Speculating is hotting up over a potential move from Celtic for Ferencvaros forward Ryan Mmaee.

Firstly, the Daily Record reported that the Hoops had undertaken extensive data analysis on the Moroccan international.

However, Ferencvaros sporting director Tamas Hajnal refuted that notion and instead stated that he would be going nowhere [Nemzeti Sport]. We spoke yesterday about how Celtic could easily move for Mmaee if they felt it was worth it given the Hungarian club’s transfer history of selling top stars.

And now the Athletic’s Kieran Devlin has claimed that he’s also heard noise of strong Celtic interest in the player.

He’s been speaking to The Cynic on their “The Agenda” podcast, and said the following when speaking about Mmaee: “I heard on Friday from a couple of people that they’re really keen on Ferencvaros striker Ryan Mmaee. There’s loads of legs in that.

“Looking into him he seems a really good fit, I’d be quite excited about bringing him in.

“People say you’ve got GG and Kyogo there, but there were times where both of those guys were injured and we had to play Ajeti through the middle or play a false nine, I do think you are one or two injuries away from having a striker crisis.”

Ryan Mmaee to Celtic – does he fit Ange Postecoglou’s profile?

Mmaee did feature against Celtic in the Europa League this season. However, if truth be told, nobody in the Hungarian side truly impressed in either of our games against them.

Mmaee, however, has had a brilliant season overall and did make his mark in Europe too. In addition to his 19 goals he also notched 11 assists. That takes him to 31 direct goal contributions in 39 matches [Transfermarkt]. He also netted against Bayer Leverkusen away from home on the Euro stage whilst assistant one against the Hoops.

The Moroccan international is quick and clearly has an eye for goal. He’s happy to take men on and clearly gets plenty of joy playing off the shoulder of the backline.

In addition to that, Mmaee is confident playing down the left flank. That gives Ange options if he does look to make a move. Clearly, he would add something to Celtic if we went down this route.

However, whether he would get the game-time he would desire here is another thing. Ange has often gone with one up top and there are no signs of that changing anytime soon. Given the popularity and class of Giorgos Giakoumakis and Kyogo, you do wonder where there’s room for a third option.

But the manager will want to keep evolving his squad in any case and boost the quality in reserve. Mmaee certainly looks like he would do just that.
