Ronny Deila has reportedly held talks to replace another former Celtic manager, Tony Mowbray, at English Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

The Norwegian boss spent time as Celtic manager between 2014-2016, delivering three trophies during his two-year stint in the Parkhead dugout.

Since leaving the Hoops, Deila has gone on to have a spell in his homeland before taking the job at New York City FC in the MLS.

During his time in the Big Apple, Deila has enjoyed more success as a manager, taking his NYFC side to their first MLS Cup in 2021.

After achieving what he has in Norway, Scotland and now the US, clubs look to have been taking notice of the 46-year old, with suggestions that Standard Liege could be interested in giving him another shot in Europe.

However, Deila could now be set for a return closer to Scotland if reports in his homeland are to be believed.

According to Nettavisen journalist @StianWahl, English Championship side Blackburn Rovers have held talks with Deila and stated that he would be interested in returning to a European based club.

Of course, if he were to take the role at Ewood Park, Deila would be replacing another man who was once in the Celtic dugout, Tony Mowbray.

After spending over five years with the club, the former Hoops manager and captain departed Rovers this summer. And now, Blackburn looks like they could potentially be turning to another manager with Celtic connections.

Deila deserves another shot in Europe, but is Blackburn the right club?

It is fair to say that Deila’s time with Celtic wasn’t always smooth sailing.

However, he remains a popular figure within the fan base, and that is because his ideas were correct. It just didn’t click overall for him at the club.

After going over to America and achieving more success, Deila deserves another shot at a bigger club based in Europe, and clubs are clearly taking notice.

It is in the early stages, but with Blackburn holding talks, they are interested in what the former Celtic manager could do for the club.

But, I’m not so sure this would be the best move for the Norweigan.

Of course, if he is to do well with Rovers, it could catapult his managerial career, and clubs down south will be taking even more notice.

However, the English Championship is a difficult league to crack, and he will face a tough job ahead of him.

But, I am sure if Deila is to be offered the role, he will be full of belief and will use his experiences from his roles across the globe to the best of his advantage.

If he does take the job at Blackburn, Deila will also be making a swift return to Celtic Park as Rovers take on Ange Postecoglou’s side in the East End of Glasgow on the 16th of July.

One thing is clear; it doesn’t seem like too long before we see Ronny back in Europe.
