Richard Foster has predicted Celtic to lift the title and Hearts to finish above Rangers in the league.

The former Rangers and Aberdeen defender was speaking about the challenge Hearts are posing to Celtic right now after being asked how he sees the league title race going.

With Rangers languishing in the bottom half of the Scottish Premiership table, the Ibrox club look like they will finish second to Celtic again for the fifth year in a row.

Or will they? Foster makes two predictions that will delight the Celtic support but give Rangers fans the fear.

Richard Foster predicts Celtic title win and double pain for Rangers

Celtic are currently two points behind Hearts in the league with the Bhoys scheduled to travel to Tynecastle on the 26th of October.

But with plenty of games left to go in the season, Foster believes Celtic will still win the league but predicts more pain for Rangers.

Foster told The Go Radio Football Show, “Do I think Hearts can win the league?

“I don’t think so. I think Celtic will come good at some point. I think they’re slowly, slowly getting there. They will get better.

“Do I think Hearts can finish second at the moment? Absolutely. Derek is an experienced manager. He knows the game. He’s got his team playing a way again, that suits the squad of players that he’s got. It suits the players that he’s got at his disposal. He’s got Lawrence Shankland playing up top end of the pitch.

“I don’t understand why any manager would take him away from that area because he will score goals, but he also links the game really well. Something that he’s improved drastically.”

Foster believes Hearts will finish second to Celtic with Rangers in third

It’s been a long time since anyone other than Rangers finished second to Celtic. Aberdeen managed it in season 2017/18.

And Foster reckons Hearts are about to repeat that feat this season.

Foster continued, “So I just think the club [Hearts] are in a good place. The fan base are in a good place. The players are playing really well. I don’t think they can win the league.

“I hope I’m wrong, because I think it would be brilliant for the game if someone else other than Rangers and Celtic won the league.

“I don’t think they can win the league, but I think they can go on and finish second and do really well.”

Celtic fans will certainly be hoping that Foster is wrong and that his wish for a team other than Celtic winning the league happens.

As for his prediction that Hearts will finish second ahead of Rangers, the Celtic support will take that any day of the week.
