If there’s one thing that rivals are hoping Celtic do after their 10IAR loss, it’s that we crumble and stumble from rebuild to rebuild.
Yes, there was something heartbreaking about losing the 10 in such a weak fashion. Even though we all had the chance to come to terms with it weeks beforehand given how far we were behind, it doesn’t make it any less shocking.
And what makes the loss of 10-in-a-row so big for opposition fans is this idea that we don’t know where to turn. That as supporters we’ll fully turn on the club and that we’ll go from disaster to disaster.
That Celtic get desperate for immediate success and make a plethora of mistakes. That we sign a raft of new players that don’t click and that any new manager’s rebuild falls flat on its face because of it.
To sum up – they hope us losing the 10 will see Celtic become one big mess. That it leads to a period of dominance at Rangers under Steven Gerrard.
Celtic appointing the likes of Jesse Marsch or Eddie Howe would help us move on from 10iar debacle
This is exactly the reason why Celtic must make the right appointment this summer. If they appoint RB Salzburg’s Jesse Marsch or the favourable Eddie Howe – they’ll have done their job. There would be a feeling amongst the supporters similar to that when Brendan Rodgers walked in the door.
When Rangers beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-finals back in 2016, that was supposed to lead to a similar collapse. Instead, it angered the Hoops and we blew the gloating Ibrox club out of the water.
This is an even bigger challenge for the club, but the remit remains the same. Appointing a high-calibre manager and showing some ambition would move fans on from the 10IAR failure more than some may think.

Yes, it sounds ridiculous given how long we talked about the famous 10 for and how much of a blow it is not to have obtained it. But you watch the excitement and reception any ambitious appointment would get. Especially the likes of Marsch, who would truly represent something different. He would symbolise a proper era of change at Celtic Park.
The main figures fans vilified for the 10IAR loss won’t be here in the summer anyway. Neil Lennon has already left whilst Peter Lawwell is due to quit as chief executive at the end of the season. Head of football operations Nick Hammond also surely won’t be here when the new director of football comes in.
That alone will appease supporters. But adding a blockbuster name as our new head coach will add real positive momentum and confidence to the club. It’s the kind of appointment that would frustrate Rangers supporters and give us something to get behind.
That’s exactly why Celtic should be doing all they can to bring a big name in.
In other news, yet another BBC pundit has pushed the prospect of Jesse Marsch to Celtic.
