Robbie Keane is reportedly ahead of Jens Berthel Askou in the race to be Celtic’s next manager.
That’s what STV journo Ronnie Charters has said, with Martin O’Neill looking increasingly likely to vacate the dugout after this Saturday’s Scottish Cup final.
A major rebuild for the club beckons, regardless of who is in charge next season. Many players are expected to leave this summer.
Many have called for Askou’s appointment after his stellar season with Motherwell, but Keane looks likely to be the chosen man.

Ronnie Charters’ Robbie Keane preferred over Jens Berthel Askou at Celtic
Speaking on the STV Radio Football Show, Charters said of O’Neill: “I don’t think he’ll be the Celtic manager next year.
“I know the recruitment process is very much now well and truly ramped up, but he could still win the double. He’s still got the Scottish Cup final to come.

“The more I speak, the more I hear, the less I maybe think that it’s going to be Jens, who’s the current bookies’ favourite, to take over.
“Toulouse is a possibility. I think that might just be the good old Jedi mind tricks of the people around to try and get his name out there. He’s a manager that’s in demand, basically.
“And if Celtic want to make their move for him, they’d better be quick. So I think that’s the dark arts of football at play.
“If you asked me to put my mortgage on it right now, and I had to pick someone, I’d think that Robbie Keane is in line ahead of Jens.
“No, that’s not a thing (with Scott Brown as assistant). Yeah, it was only because Scott Brown went over to see him. But he had to do that for his pro licence. Not to say it won’t happen.
“It shows you how big our podcast is, because we were discussing this again on Saturday, speaking to someone at Parkhead, they said, ‘What you said on the podcast isn’t exactly true.’

“So we said that probably if Martinez, who’s with Portugal, will go deep into the competition, he’s not going to arrive in Glasgow if he’s appointed until at least the middle of July.
“But he says, ‘Ha ha, that’s correct. But Maloney’s there now. He could be his assistant. The work would already be underway.’
“But I just don’t know, can you really have Martinez turning up in the middle of July when your Champions League qualifier is in a month?”
