Robbie Savage has opened up on why he comes across as anti-Celtic on BT Sport.
The Welshman can regularly be seen on BT broadcasts or on Twitter having digs at the Hoops. This often involves altercations with Celtic hero Chris Sutton, who takes the opposite side.
The difference between the duo, however, is that Savage has no affiliation with Rangers. He never played for the Ibrox club, and doesn’t have any real reason to dislike Celtic.

And, for those who wonder why he’s so anti-Celtic on broadcasts, he’s opened up on Open Goal with Simon Ferry. Touching on his ding-dong battles with Sutton, Savage actually reveals he doesn’t support EITHER Glasgow club.
“My beloved Rangers…obviously I have a bit of banter with Chris. I just go against Chris Sutton. Listen, I don’t support either Celtic or Rangers
“I was a big fan of Celtic with Martin O’Neill, my ex-boss, John Hartson, my old room-mate, Neil Lennon. I used to like Celtic but then as soon as Chris started banging on about Celtic.
“I’m a friend of Steven Gerrard’s so now I’ve gone on the Rangers side of the fence and I just love hammering Chris when Rangers get a result and Celtic don’t.”
You can tell
It’s easy to tell that Savage doesn’t know much about the Scottish Premiership, and therefore doesn’t really support either side.

Whenever there are televised altercations between Savage and Sutton, the former looks uncomfortable in his arguments. He doesn’t know the Scottish game inside-out the way Sutton does, and it doesn’t look too great for Savage during arguments.
It very much just feels as though he attempts to do what Sutton does but as an opposite. Sutton has been known to wind Rangers up in the past, and Savage likely feels he should do the same with Celtic. Considering where the two clubs are at the moment, however, we haven’t heard from him in some time.
But now we have an explanation as to why he likes to be so pro-Rangers in his comments. According to Savage, it’s simply done to wind up Sutton.
