Celtic Park was packed to the rafters for our group-winning victory over Rennes on Thursday evening. However, there was one notable absentee from Paradise on another exhilarating night.

Super fan Rod Stewart was in Glasgow, but across the city at the Hydro where he was playing the third of his five night tour. The 74-year-old may have been missing his beloved Celtic secure a fourth group stage win in-a-row but his mind was still on the game as he updated concert goers on proceedings at Paradise.

The BBC’s Annie McGuire informed followers on Twitter that Stewart had revealed the score to his crowd.

She wrote: “Rod Stewart giving out the Celtic score is true public service broadcasting.” Given that her tweet was timed at 9:06pm, it’s fair to assume that Stewart would’ve been telling his fans that it was 2-0 to his beloved Hoops.

Stewart is likely to be at Celtic Park in February

The legendary musician may have been gutted to miss out on the match but it was hardly a momentous night, despite the score. The most bizarre thing about comfortably beating a top five European league team was that we did it without ever hitting top gear.

Yes we scored three goals and created numorous other chances, but there was a feeling that we have even more to offer. Given that we were playing without Odsonne Edouard and Mohamed Elyounoussi – arguably our two most valuable players – the signs are really ominous for the knockout round.

Stewart is likely to be there in February as we aim to complete the job against whoever we’re drawn against. The second leg will be at home after all.
