Brendan Rodgers has criticised his Celtic players following the team’s poor performance in the 2-0 Europa League defeat to Valencia.
Rodgers felt that his players were guilty of making too many basic errors which played into Valencia’s hands.
“I thought we started the game very well, but Valencia are a team that wait on your mistakes” Rodgers told BBC Sport.
“Unfortunately for us we made too many mistakes. When you do that against good teams it kills your momentum, puts you on the back foot.”
The Hoops have failed to perform for the most part in Europe this season.
The one exception being the 2-1 win over RB Leipzig. That performance looks to be a one-off for Hoops fans this season.
It will be intriguing to see how the Hoops go about the second leg of the tie. It is sandwiched between some vital league games.
Therefore, you would expect the upcoming games against Kilmarnock and Hearts to take priority.
That might not be the case though.
It would undeniably be a feather in the cap for the Hoops boss if he was to mastermind an unlikely comeback in the second leg.
It would not be surprising if the strongest side available was chosen to face Valencia.
That is for the future though, firstly Rodgers has to get his players motivated for a tough trip to Kilmarnock.
