Celtic winger Mohamed Elyounoussi managed to end a huge week from a personal perspective by receiving plenty of love from the Hoops supporters.

After spending recent matches rooted to the bench, Neil Lennon brought Elyounoussi on in Riga where he would fire home a last-minute winner and send Celtic to the Europa League playoffs.

The Norwegian then made it two goals in two games this afternoon with another fine goal against Hibernian in the Premiership. However, his all-round performance was certainly the main talking point.

And after what’s been a huge week for him individually, the Hoops supporters have been showing their love for him on social media. Here’s a look at some of the reaction to today’s performance:

Elyounoussi must be Christie’s biggest rival

Playing just in behind Edouard saw Elyounoussi thrive more than he has done in any other position since arriving at Parkhead in the summer of 2019.

The Norwegian has so often played on the left-wing in Neil Lennon’s team. However, with a 3-5-2 formation effectively giving Moi no real place in the side, it’s clear that he’ll make more of an impression just in behind a strike partnership or behind a lone-striker in a 3-5-1-1.

His goal against Riga last Thursday also came from him making a run from that number 10 position. It’s obvious that it’s where he can be our biggest goal threat, and he now must surely be breathing down the neck of Ryan Christie.

Christie has long had Tom Rogic as his main rival for the number 10 spot. But taking into account the week Elyounoussi has just had, we may need to re-evaluate that from this point forward.

Regardless, Lennon will simply be delighted that the on-loan Southampton man has bounced back in the way we all needed him to after being dropped. It shows a real strength of character to turn it on when the chips are down.

It’s been a big week not just for Elyounoussi, but for the club as a whole. After some big wins, things are looking up again, and they’re most definitely looking up for Moi.

In other news, Neil Lennon has insisted that the club has all of the data to dismiss a popular theory.
