With Celtic’s defeat in Valencia confirming their exit from the Europa League, the Bhoys have no time to lick their wounds.

Domestic action resumes again with Motherwell on Sunday at Parkhead and the Scottish champions must replicate their performance in Spain throughout the rest of the season.

A courageous and aggressive display was long overdue from a Brendan Rodgers team in Europe.

He got that and more from his players. If they play like that in Scotland, no one will be able to handle them.

Celtic’s defeat at the hands of the La Liga side means all they have left to concentrate on is a treble treble.

Not a bad position to be in at all. Celtic should have treated European football as a bonus this season.

Like that extremely attractive girlfriend, European football and Celtic are just never going to last.

It’s excited and unpredictable at times, but in the end we all just want to be happy.

Celtic find their happiness by winning domestically. They must get up off the canvas and secure their place in history.

Motherwell on Sunday will be no gimme for Celtic. Even at home, where the Bhoys are perfect this season domestically.

The Steelmen have won their last six straight league games. But this is a perfect game for Celtic to return to.

A tough battle is exactly what Celtic are needing when they return to normality. Their showing in Valencia will have given them hope in terms of competing in Europe next season.

However, if they want to be back in the Champions League in the autumn, they must win the league beforehand.

Eight points clear with 12 games left, it would take a collapse that Celtic haven’t looked capable of since Rodgers took charge.

However, they must continue the charge. Replicate their performance in the Mestalla and Celtic will find domestic duty much easier to handle.

The sweetest one yet

If and when Celtic secure their eight successive Premiership title, it will be the one that gives most satisfaction to Celtic fans.

With a so-called resurgent Rangers to deal with, many have questioned the mentality of the Celtic team throughout the season.

With an early Champions League exit to deal with, the early season was stop-start for the Bhoys.

Now they’ve found their form domestically since the new year, and with no more Europe to flirt with, Celtic’s sole focus in on making history for the third straight year.
