UEFA have confirmed that Glenn Nyberg will take charge of this evening’s Champions League match between Celtic and Shakhtar Donetsk.
The two sides are preparing to face off in Poland as the Hoops look to pick up their first points in this season’s competition.
On the other hand, Shakhtar will be attempting to take an early advantage over Ange Postecoglou’s side by picking up six points from their first two outings.

Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg, who will be taking charge this evening [UEFA], has experience in Europe in the UEFA Europe League and Europa Conference League.
However, tonight’s game will be the first time that Nyberg is the man in the middle of a UEFA Champions League group stage fixture.
He will also be joined by fellow countryman Mahbod Beigi and Andreas Soderqvist, who will be his assistants, as well as fourth official Mohammed Al-Hakim.
The 33-year-old’s previous Champions League experience only goes as far as the qualifying stage. But, the referee now looks to be making his way up the ladder after taking charge of over 200 games in his homeland [Transfermarkt]
Although Nyberg may not have much experience within the world’s most prestigious club competition, he does have previous experience with Celtic.
In 2019, Nyberg was the referee for the Bhoys 1st round Champions League qualifier in Bosnia-Herzegovina against FK Sarajevo, in which Neil Lennon’s side ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Mikey Johnston, Odsonne Edouard and Scott Sinclair.

Of course, in European competition, there are a number of differences in how refereeing is conducted in comparison to our domestic action.
During tonight’s game, VAR will be in place, should it need to be used to correct any errors made by Nyberg and the other officials.
As always, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou will be hoping that side of things won’t be the focus of tonight’s game, and hopefully, the quality of his squad can pull through to secure all three points.
It should prove to be a difficult task for the Hoops. But, at the same time, it should be one that the Bhoys are looking forward to after a positive showing in their opening group stage game.
