Have Celtic found their much-needed strikers?

Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit in January proved to be a big problem for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers because it started a road of trouble in the starting striker position.

Things became worse this summer, and despite Celtic having Johnny Kenny and Callum Osmand on board for this campaign, they were hardly used, and in the case of the teenager, he was never seen until Martin O’Neill arrived.

Both scored during Celtic’s win over Rangers in the League Cup semi-final on Sunday, but Ross McCormack made it clear that only one of them is the starting striker.

Callum Osmand and Johnny Kenny compared with Kyogo Furuhashi claim

There is still a long way to go, but thanks to O’Neill, Celtic finally have some life in the attacking department.

But when picking between Kenny and Osmand as the main man, McCormack stated that the latter is the ‘starting striker for Celtic.’

Speaking on Open Goal, McCormack even compared Osmand to Celtic’s goalscoring hero Kyogo Furuhashi, and how they are similar.

McCormack: “I just think, as a starting striker for Celtic, I can’t see it (with Kenny). I much prefer the young boy, Osmand.”

Si Ferry: “What do you think Osmand is better than Kenny at?”

McCormack: “Pace. Movement. I think you can mould Osmand into something like a Kyogo. You see his movement for the goal. Right in between the sticks. Just a direct run.

“Aye, I loved him. Where the f__k has he been?”

Andy Halliday: “You do ask that question, though, with Brendan Rodgers when he was there. How was the boy Osmand not played any games?”

Ferry: “It’s actually madness. Madness, isn’t it?!”

Let’s be honest, if Rodgers was still in charge, Osmand would be sitting at home, and the Celtic manager would be getting his Honda Civic analogy out again.

But Rodgers’ abrupt exit has resulted in Osmand having the best week of his life.
