Ross McCormack believes that Kelechi Iheanacho could be the signing that helps Daizen Maeda thrive at Celtic again.
Iheanacho scored a stoppage time winner on his Celtic debut to earn all three points against Kilmarnock.
He came on for Maeda, who scored the opener in his first game for the club since the Japan star said he wanted to leave.
It’s early days and Iheanacho isn’t the finished article, but McCormack thinks there is plenty he could offer.

Since the departure of Adam Idah to Swansea City, Maeda has filled in the number nine role in that time.
That isn’t his best position at all, and if Brendan Rodgers can get his new striker fit, that would benefit Maeda.
Speaking on Clyde 1 SuperScoreBoard, McCormack said: “His quality has never been in doubt. It’s more of a fitness issue for him.
“If Rodgers can get him up to speed, and up to speed quickly, then there is no doubt that they have got a real quality player on their hands.
“That will enable Maeda to switch to the left, where I think he is best.
Daizen Maeda has always thrived out wide
Back in 2024, Maeda said he prefers to play out wide as opposed to down the middle, where he is less effective.
He may be blessed with pace but his ability to drive down the line and cut inside is what makes Celtic tick.

Having another out-and-out striker is only a positive for the Celtic manager, who now has more of a selection headache in the attacking department.
