Celtic attacker Ryan Christie is currently enjoying the best season of his career. His goal in the midweek win over Hearts was his 17th of the season.

That is a superb return for a player who is not a striker. However, Christie has revealed that Neil Lennon wants him to contribute even more to the team, and the player seems willing to do this.

Lennon is hoping that Christie can provide more assists to the team, even though he already has 11 for the season.

“It’s not just about goals. Assists are also important. The gaffer has stressed that to me since I’m playing in the No 10 role” Christie said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.

Interestingly, in the 2-0 win over Hearts, Christie didn’t play in the number 10 role, but on the wing. Still, that didn’t stop him from contributing to the game with a goal.

As for assists, it is good to see that Lennon wants the player to strive to become even more influential, even though his goal tally has made him possibly Celtic’s most important player this season.

It seems inevitable that Christie will score more than 20 goals this season. What he should also aim for is 20 pus assists.

As has already been stated, he is on 11 for the season so far. It might take some time, but with the number of games Celtic are set to play in the second-half of the season he is more than capable of reaching this goal, providing he stays fit.

Should Christie end the season with more than 20 goals and assists then he would have to be favourite for all the end of season awards in Scottish football.

He still has a way to go to reach that total yet. But with the encouragement of his manager and his team-mates, Christie can go on to achieve great things in the second-half of the season.
