Ryan Christie assures fans Celtic are itching to kill Kilmarnock hoodoo

Ryan Christie has stated that Celtic are “desperate” to kill off their Rugby Park hoodoo.

The Hoops have lost both trips to Ayrshire ever since Steve Clark was appointed Killie manager. The 1-0 and 2-1 defeats were particularly poor performances from the Brendan Rodgers era so far.

Christie only featured in one of them. The former Aberdeen and Inverness star played the full 90 minutes when the Hoops were beaten 2-1 back in September. These results came incredibly after Celtic went 14 matches unbeaten at Rugby Park – drawing two.

And Christie has revealed in the Daily Record that Celtic are itching to get back to winning ways in Ayrshire. Speaking ahead of the game, the Hoops attacker had the following to say:

“We need to make a statement. We want to rectify the fact we’ve had back-to-back defeats there.

“You don’t want to have records like that anywhere so we’ll be up for the match and will be chasing all three points. We’re disappointed but the best thing we can do is win at Killie.

“That would push us on in the league and give us a bit of momentum going into the second leg. We can’t get caught up on what happened on Thursday night, we need to brush it aside and go again in the league.”

A win would be a massive statement

This afternoon’s contest has a lot more difficulty attached to it than it has had in the past. Clarke has totally transformed the club into an efficient top-four side.

Nobody in the country now fancies going to Rugby Park. Killie have also beaten and drawn with Rangers at home in their last two meetings with them too. That means out of their last two games against both Rangers and Celtic at home, they haven’t lost a single one.

It’s an incredible achievement for Clarke and Killie. But today, Celtic have to make sure that dreamland run comes to an end.

Rangers dropped points yesterday as they were held to a goalless draw by St Johnstone. Another victory for Celtic and it would only take a fool to say the league isn’t just about over.

It’s absolutely vital the Hoops players also have that hunger to end their barren run in Ayrshire. Going by Christie’s words, it appears they have the right idea.
