Ryan Christie could be fit for Celtic’s Partick Thistle cup clash

Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie may not out of action for as long as first feared despite undergoing surgery in the wake of Sunday’s defeat to Rangers, The Daily Record report.

In fact, he could even be in the team for the return of Neil Lennon’s team on January 18th, when we take on Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

The paper reports that there were fears he could miss a large chunk of the second half of the season after groin damage. However, it’s now thought he’ll only be out of action for two or three weeks.

That ties in with BBC Scotland’s update, that stated he only had to undergo a ‘minor procedure’, despite being rushed to hospital after the Celtic Park clash.

There have been many rumours on social regarding what happened to Christie at Celtic Park, but at the very least it looks like he will not be out for a significant length of time, which is a major positive for Lennon.

The attacking midfielder was below his best against Rangers but has been one of our most important performers this season, netting a sensational 17 goals in all competitions and creating 13 assists (Transfermarkt).

Needed for Celtic return

The Hoops have a difficult schedule of fixtures in early 2020, with five of our first six fixtures coming away from home, four of which are in the Scottish Premiership.

With Rangers enjoying home advantage in comparison, we really need our big players like Christie at the peak of their game and ready to go.

A period of recuperation in Dubai will help. It certainly seemed to do the trick last year. After losing a derby to Rangers in December 2018, Celtic stormed to a third successive treble.

Can the team show similar resilience this time around?
