Celtic star Ryan Christie’s Twitter account appears to have been deactivated after the Hoops’ 2-0 defeat at Livingston yesterday.
Christie made a huge blunder to tip the game in Livi’s favour. At 0-0, the attacker got himself sent off with a rash challenge on Scott Robinson. It put us up against it, and Celtic ultimately lost the game 2-0 to slip to second in the Premiership.
Fans generally haven’t been happy with our top scorer for the sending off either. It was clear as day, and social media has been full of people criticising Christie for his actions.

But it appears that the Celtic star has had enough. Christie’s account is no longer retrievable. It’s not out of the question to think that this has come on the back of some heavy criticism for the red.
The former Aberdeen and Inverness star only started using Twitter regularly last season. However, already, it appears he’s had enough and has deactivated things for now.
Probably a good move on Christie’s part
This is probably the correct decision. People react to criticism differently, and Christie seems like a player who will genuinely be hurt by it. He’s quite right to zone himself out and keep focused on how to improve next time around. He’s a Celtic fan too. Getting abuse from other supporters will strike his heart.
Due to the nature of Christie’s challenge, Celtic will be without him for a home clash against Ross County and a trip to Aberdeen.

Hopefully, during that time, he comes back on to Twitter and gets himself active again. Supporters absolutely adore Christie, but it’s clear certain criticism has got to him in some way.
It’s also important to remember all the good that the Scotland international has done us this season. Had it not been for his goals this term, we would be struggling heavily in all competitions.

Yesterday was an uncharacteristic move from him. Everyone acknowledges that. But does he deserve so much criticism that he feels the need to switch off from social media?
The answer is no. Christie deserves better than that, and will undoubtedly bounce back in a Celtic jersey. Whether he bounces back on social media, however, is doubtful.
