But Hoops hero Christie returned the favour last night – as ScotRail let us all know shortly after full-time.

Christie’s moment will go down in Scottish sporting history – alongside the likes of Andy Murray, Chris Hoy and Archie Gemmill.

The Scotland man was heroic in his country’s win in Serbia, scoring our goal on the night. Yet it really does say something that a train operator mentioned him on their social media feed.

This writer can’t have been the only one sobbing away uncontrollably as Christie also failed to control his emotions.

It simply meant so much to a country that has gone through so much despair.

Christie was the perfect guy to show his emotion

Scotland isn’t the only country to have been affected by COVID-19 this year.

But when you add in the pain the deadly virus has brought us all, to 22 years of hurt on the pitch, you’ve got a cocktail of raw emotions going around.

Christie was the perfect embodiment of all of that.

Let’s just hope it’s not the last time we see happy tears from him this campaign.
